You can be sure that if a food place starts with the word "WANG" there has to be something interesting about it.
One of the best places our family went to during our winter trip to Beijing is the Wang Fujing night market.
The highlight of the place was all the street food! Most notably, these exotic food items which are a little bit pricey but quite worth it for the experience. They had a wide range of food items such as scorpions, tarantulas, moths, centipedes, snake meat, chrysali, and a lot more.
Case in point:

And this too I kept as a pet. As for the centipede, I just didn't eat it because it was plain expensive.

Now THIS is what I ate. The poor caterpillar never got out of the cocoon... and those that did still got their wings removed and served right here.
Now I know I haven’t posted in quite a while and I must admit, I am in semi-retirement mode from niche blogging. But when one gets to not only take pictures but TAKE A VIDEO of what has happened here, how could I resist posting it?
AND THUS FINALLY…
Notes:
1. I made a mistake near the beginning – those aren’t mealworms, those are the chrysalis or the PUPA stage in the life-cycle of the moth. Yes, moth – not butterfly since like you, I love the pretty butterflies too. (But there’s no fault in eating an ugly old moth!)
2. CHECK OUT THAT WHITE GUY TAKING A VIDEO OF ME. He also asked me if it was good afterwards. Must have thought I was crazy or something. I must say, he’s a fair judge of character.
3. The the good-looking dude who looks like me? That’s my older bro. The woman screaming YUCK in the background? (while she videotaped it) that’s my mom. She must be so proud of her sons. LOVE YOU MA!
